Feinstein Matching Drive

Catholic Charities Food Pantry participates each year in the Feinstein challenge (www.feinsteinfoundation.org) held every March and April.

Rhode Island Philanthropist Alan Shawn Feinstein has offered to help agencies who feed the hungry by allocating up 1 million dollars to be divided proportionately among participating agencies who raise funds during March and April of each year.

In 2005, 133 million was raised nationwide in this 1 million dollar challenge. Anyone who makes a donation to the pantry during March and April will leverage additional dollars.

In 2007, Catholic Charities raised over $42,000 in funds and donated food items.  Since its inception, the Feinstein Challenge has helped the agency raise over $100,000 in donated funds and goods.

Catholic Charities provides the largest single independent pantry in Broome County and serves approximately 3600 people per month. In addition, Catholic Charities works with five parishes in Western Broome to serve an additional 500 people per month.

About 45% of those served are children. Not only will donations directly benefit the hungry in our community, but also the value of these donations will be matched proportionally by Mr. Feinstein.
