Direct Support Professional - Full-time, Part-time, and Per Diem Positions

Title: Direct Support Professional (Aides)
Department: Residential Services
Hours: Full-time, Part-Time and Per-Diem positions available.

FLSA Non-exempt - $15-$18/hr.


 

Qualifications:

A. Education/Experience

1. High school diploma or equivalent
2. Six months experience with OPWDD population
OR
3. Equivalent combination of education and experience
4. Valid New York State or Pennsylvania driver’s license

B. Skills

1. Good writing and observation skills
2. Good interpersonal skills
3. Ability to work with people at different functioning levels
4. Ability to work with team approach
5. The ability to climb stairs, bend, stoop, sit, stand, reach and lift items weighing 40 lbs. or less
6. Familiar with computer programs (e.g. Word, Excel)

Primary Duties:

1. Write or assist in writing reports and documenting individual progress
2. Participate in team planning meetings and case reviews
3. Follow daily activity schedule
4. Identify and advocate for individual rights
5. Teach/assist in developing/maintaining ADL skills
6. Act as a role model
7. Perform routine household cleaning and upkeep
8. Administer medications/treatments as per doctor’s orders
9. Provide lift, transfer, and assistance with range of motion exercises
10. Assist in teaching self-medication skills, utilization of health services, and proper nutrition
11. Assist individuals in identifying personal recreational interests
12. Plan and construct activities
13. Identify and use community based leisure/recreation activities
14. Establish/maintain rapport with community recreation contacts
15. Assist with purchase of clothing, personal hygiene supplies and personal belongings.
16. Maintain adaptive equipment
17. Maintain personal property lists
18. Maintain certification in required areas
19. Understand and follow all program policies and procedures
20. Report all household or resident sensitive situations to supervisor
21. Participate in and successfully complete all required staff training and development activities
22. If assigned to a IRA or ICF then you will assist with the preparation and share meal
times with residents
23. Represent the agency and program in the community and with other service providers.
24. Establish relationship with all residents, family members and advocates
25. Regular and substantial contact with individuals receiving services
26. Perform other related tasks as directed by supervisor
