Family Peer Advocate - Per Diem

Family Peer Advocate – Level 2

DIVISION:                Youth Family and Community Service

DEPARTMENT:       CFTSS

HOURS:                    Per Diem

GRADE:                    FLSA Non-Exempt - $18/hr.

I.         QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Experience

1.               High school diploma or GED

2.         Lived experience as a parent or primary care giver of a child with special needs

Skills

1.               Ability to advocate for self and others

2.               Ability to communicate clearly, including active listening

3.               Knowledge of recovery approaches

4.               The ability to climb stairs, bend, stoop, sit, stand, reach and lift items weighing 40 lbs.

5.               Ability to legally operate a vehicle in NY State

II.        RESPONSIBLE TO: Supervisor

III.      MAJOR FUNCTIONS:

1.               Complete credentialing requirements and participate in on-going continuing education

2.               Provide peer to peer support

3.               Share common experiences

4.               Participate in care planning

5.               Provide transportation

6.               Facilitate community orientation/integration

7.               Actively participate in scheduled supervision

8.               Facilitate support groups

9.               Assist others in recovery based on individual need and cultural considerations

10.            Participate in all required training

11.            Represent the Agency and program in the community and with other service providers

12.            Regular and substantial contact with individuals receiving support

13.            Perform other related tasks as directed by supervisor
